Bell Mobility launches Samsung SPH-a600 camera phone

TORONTO – Bell Mobility today announced the Canadian launch of the Samsung SPH-a600 camera phone. With the picture messaging service, customers can snap, save and share low to high resolution digital pictures with friends and family right from the screen of their wireless phone.

Bell Mobility’s Picture Messaging service is powered by LightSurf, and allows customers to not only send and share pictures, but to also attach a 128 character text message and a 10 second voice memo – allowing customers to show and also tell the story behind their photos. Pictures can be sent to up to 10 email addresses or to other Bell Mobility picture messaging phones simultaneously. Pictures can also be sent to a free online album that stores up to 250 pictures for sorting and enhancing.

“Bell Mobility brings people together through voice, text, and now pictures,” said Kelly Dixon, Vice President of Consumer Marketing, Bell Mobility. “By delivering picture messaging to our customers, we’re helping them share important moments as they happen with the friends and family who can’t be there.”

Recently, The Economist predicted that by 2005, camera phones will likely outsell film and digital cameras combined(*). Instantaneous transmission of images with voicemail messages to other mobile camera phone users or email addresses – sending photos of events, first homes and travel escapades – appeals to a wide variety of consumers as well as those working in vertical markets such as real estate, insurance and healthcare.

Samsung’s SPH-a600 camera phone features a unique rotating screen design and includes a built-in flash, 4X zoom, self timer and adjustable resolution settings to maximize the 65,000 TFT VGA (video graphics array) colour display. This display can capture photos in full colour, black and white or sepia tones or within preloaded fun frames. As an added bonus, customers can take pictures stored on their phone and turn them into personalized screensavers or assign them to numbers programmed in their phone book for visual caller ID. Beyond its camera capabilities, the a600 also offers downloadable polyphonic ringtones, screensavers, and games, two-way text messaging, wireless Internet, vibe alert as well as a calculator, world clock, to do list, calendar and three alarms.

Pricing and Availability

Customers can purchase the Samsung SPH-a600 mobile phone at any Bell World or Bell Mobility location or online at www.bell.ca for $724, or $599 with a two year contract. Picture messaging service is free and unlimited for 2 months on activation so customers can snap, save and share all the memories they like. For more information, visit www.bell.ca/mypictures
