D-Link First to Ship 802.11G Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter

D-Link, announced the first shipping of their USB 2.0 wireless IEEE 802.11g standards-compliant adapter, the D-Link Xtreme G USB Adapter (DWL-G120). Providing the compliance of high speed USB 2.0 technology to deliver an out-of-the-box installation with up to 54Mbps bandwidth in the 2.4GHz frequency range, the D-Link DWL-G120 is interoperable with the most popular 802.11g/b home, office and hot spot networks in use today. The new plug-and-play D-Link USB 2.0 wireless adapter is easily installed to connect any USB-equipped computer to wireless networks and to the Internet, bypassing the need to install an internal PCI card.

Ensuring network scalability and compatibility, the D-Link DWL-G120 USB adapter auto-senses the USB port in order to maximize network performance whether connected to a USB 2.0, 1.1 or 1.0 port. The adapter complies with the latest wireless networking security features, including 64/128-bit WEP encryption and Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) support for both 802.1x and WPA-PSK. The DWL-G120 is also capable of supporting the government-grade AES encryption and upcoming 802.11i standards with future firmware upgrades.

“Our strict compliance with the latest IEEE 802.11g and USB 2.0 standards means the DWL-G120 will be interoperable with any compliant hardware,” said Steven Joe, President of D-Link. “The USB adapter is a great addition to our robust, award-winning Xtreme G family of wireless products, because it gives users 11G speeds in a flexible device that is completely transportable between multiple computers.”

The newest addition to the award-winning Xtreme G family of products, the D-Link DWL-G120 is a plug-and-play USB 2.0 device that can operate in multiple modes, including Ad-Hoc mode, connecting point-to-point users without the need of an access point, and Infrastructure mode, connecting to a wireless residential gateway via a xDSL/Cable modem for high-speed wireless Internet access or for sharing resources across a network. With its included 5-foot USB cable, the wireless USB adapter can be positioned virtually anywhere to achieve the best-possible wireless connection. The D-Link DWL-G120 is compatible with Windows XP, 2000, ME and 98SE operating systems.
