DoCoMo FOMA Phones to Offer International Videophone/64 Kbps Data

NTT DoCoMo, Inc. announced today that a new service starting October 1, 2003 will enable third-generation Foma videophones to make international videophone calls and 64 Kbps transmissions to the United Kingdom in cooperation with Hutchison 3G UK.

FOMA already offers international dialing with its World Call service. With the new service, they will also be able to make face-to-face contact via videophone and dial directly into private LANs via data transmissions (72 yen per 10 seconds*).

No application for the service is necessary. FOMA subscribers simply dial 009130-010-44, followed by the Hutchison 3G UK mobile phone number.

DoCoMo has been supporting Hutchison 3G UK to provide the first W-CDMA based 3G services in the United Kingdom, launched on March 2003. DoCoMo expects to expand the international videophone/data service to other countries in the near future.

In the line with official requirements, DoCoMo notified the Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications of the new service.
