Siemens brings Movies to your Mobile

The Siemens Information and Communication Mobile Group (Siemens mobile) will integrate videos and games from the Universal Studios Networks German TV channels STUDIO UNIVERSAL and 13TH STREET into mobile networks together with the corresponding technical platforms for streaming and gaming, as well as billing systems. The short films will include the award-winning “Shocking Shorts” from the action, detective, thriller, horror and mystery genres. Both companies will start offering their joint services immediately to mobile operators worldwide.

The demand for mobile data services is driven not only by technology, but also by the content of such services. This fact inspired Siemens mobile together with Universal Studios Networks’ TV channels STUDIO UNIVERSAL and 13TH STREET to take the initiative and join forces in a win-win partnership. Already, the two companies are looking to support mobile network providers in introducing their customers to new, attractive – and chargeable – services and retaining those customers. In future, mobile users will be able to receive and view film excerpts, shorts or videos on their cellphones. This cooperation is part of the campaign launched by Siemens mobile at the start of the year to shake up the mobile phone market by introducing new applications.

The partnership between the TV brands of Universal Studios Networks Germany and Siemens mobile offer network operators wide-ranging benefits. Time to market for new services can be cut, content and technology no longer need to be negotiated separately. A single package is available including both platform and content that have already been made compatible and will therefore run without problems. On top of this, the customer benefits from the experience of both partners in carrying out integration projects.

According to Wolfram Winter, MD of Universal Studios Networks Germany: “If new mobile technologies are to be translated into market success, it is essential that technology and content providers work together very closely. Only if both sides are familiar with and understand the framework within which the other operates, can attractive services be developed for customers. I welcome the partnership with Siemens and look forward to our joint work on the projects.”

“I believe this is an exciting and very promising partnership, since it fuses two mutually complementary partners,” adds Volker Ziegler, President of Solutions within Siemens mobile. “Universal Studios Networks and Siemens mobile are affording mobile network operators access to first-class content in conjunction with the services of a leading integrator for videostreaming services.”
