Samsung Electronics Begins Production of Gigabit Flash Memory Chip


Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. began production of the world’s first 1Gb NAND flash memory chip, a Samsung official said on Aug. 15.

The NAND flash memory chip, which preserves and stores data, is mainly used in MP3 players, digital cameras, voice recorders, wireless handsets and other portable digital devices.

With the chip’s capacity to store 1 gigabit of data, Samsung Electronics said the semiconductor can store up to 1,000 images or two hours worth of moving images.
