Acers New Notebook Offers Biometric Protection

Acer America today announced the launch of the TravelMate 740, the newest addition to its award-winning line of TravelMate notebooks. The TravelMate 740 replaces the TravelMate 730 series as Acer’s flagship mobile PC series. The Travelmate 740 receives a powerful performance boost by taking advantage of the latest Mobile Intel® Pentium® III processors -M and incorporating an integrated 512KB L2 cache. The three-spindle design offers leading-edge performance combined with a broad range of features, making it an ideal desktop replacement system.

Top of the Line in Performance
Complete with Intel’s 830MP chipset, which provides a 133 MHz processor system bus, 16MB DDR RAM, a DVD-CD-RW combo drive and fingerprint security, the TravelMate 740 has all the benefits of desktop performance with notebook mobility.

“On-the-go corporate customers demand the latest technology in performance, multimedia, and security”, said Sumit Agnihotry, Product Manager, Acer America Mobile Division, “In response we introduced the Travelmate 740 providing customers with a high performance product that offers flexibility, increased multimedia performance and enhanced security”.

Powerful Multimedia Solution
The TravelMate 740’s ATI Mobility™ Radeon™ M6-S VGA controller boasts 16MB embedded DDR RAM delivering superior video and graphics performance and supporting SXGA+ resolution on the large 15″ TFT display. In addition, the 3D audio system and two flat panel speakers built into the lid cover provide high quality, uniform sound over a wide area.

Outstanding Communication and Connectivity
The Travelmate 740 includes an embedded wake-on LAN, 10/100 Mbps fast Ethernet connection and a 56K ITU V.90 data/fax modem with international PTT approval. For state-of-the-art wireless networking, an optional Acer InviLink™ IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN PC card is available for use in the units CardBus slots. Complete with a 20 GB enhanced IDE hard drive, built in floppy drive, hot swappable CD-RW/DVD combo drive and two USB ports, the TravelMate 740 offers the flexibility corporate business users demand.

Enhanced Security
Guarding against unauthorized use and protecting the most sensitive encrypted files, the TravelMate 740’s fingerprint recognition system offers increased security. The new AuthenTec image technology scans more than 9000 individual elements in the sensor matrix, creating an accurate digital pattern of the fingerprint’s underlying structure. Security Software, included with the Travelmate 740, allows users to simply record their fingerprints by pressing the sensor built into the palm rest area.

Rugged Portable Design
Despite its full range of features, the Travelmate 740 weighs less than seven pounds and measures 1.5-1.9″ thick. Its unique thermal design ensures that the system stays cool and stable without consuming unnecessary power and the magnesium alloy casing provides superior protection. Providing for extended use on the road, the TravelMate 740 contains a single Li-Ion battery providing up to four hours of battery life.

The TravelMate 740 is preloaded with Microsoft® Windows® 2000.

The Acer TravelMate 740 series will be available late September 2001 through Acer authorized resellers in North America starting at $2299.
