NTT DoCoMo, Inc. and Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) today signed separate memorandums of understanding (MoU) with NTT DoCoMo’s six alliance partners regarding the joint development and marketing of a new mobile communications network service and related applications that combine DoCoMo’s mobile Internet and SCEI’s PlayStation technologies. The service is to be marketed in each of the partners’ respective business domains.
The alliance partners are: AT&T Wireless Group (AWE), Hutchison Telephone Company Limited (HTCL), Hutchison 3G UK Limited (Hutchison 3G UK), KG Telecommunications Co., Ltd (KG Telecom), KPN Mobile N.V. (KPN Mobile) and Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM).
Under the terms of their agreements, NTT DoCoMo and SCEI have agreed to share their service know-how with the six companies so that each can begin offering new services to mobile phone users in their respective markets in Europe, North America and Asia.
The companies will jointly conduct research in order to:
Unite SCEI’s PlayStation technologies and mobile Internet to create a new network service and related applications.
Create an interface between mobile Internet terminals and PlayStation.
Create an interface between PlayStation, a gateway server and the servers of content providers.
NTT DoCoMo will encourage content providers to take advantage of this new network service in order to gradually expand the content selection for users.
