SMS and e-mail team up

”Ever sent off an e-mail from your home computer that needs an urgent reply but you have had to leave the house straight after? Italian company GTN has launched what it claims is the world’s first SMS-to-email reply service, sms@me.

When you receive that urgent e-mail with somebody registered with the sms@me service, the email gives you the option of replying via SMS via your computer. The mobile phone number is automatically included in the sms@me reply function that comes with the e-mail.

At the moment, the service is only available in Italy, where GTN says it is “in close talks with the principal providers of e-mail services”. GTN says it expects a major deal with Italian service providers very soon, after which it will pursue deals with providers and operators worldwide to introduce the service. GTN say the service will take off because “it integrates two very successful services”, – e-mail and SMS. ”
