Bell Mobility to launch Canada’s first market trial of wireless multimedia
PacketVideo Corporation, the global leader in wireless media, and Bell Mobility, Canada’s leading provider of wireless voice and data services, today announced they are conducting Canada’s first consumer field trial of wireless multimedia services. The trial will take place in the first quarter of 2001 and will involve Bell Mobility customers.
In the Canadian wireless market Bell Mobility commands the largest market share, offering analog, cellular, and digital PCS services, as well as one- and two-way paging, data, and airline passenger communications services to nearly three million customers. Bell Mobility also offers innovative services such as e-mail, weather and traffic bulletins, as well as directory and other services over mobile handsets.

PacketVideo’s breakthrough encoding, serving and decoding software unlocks the profitable deployment of rich media to the mobile market through a new generation of powerful mobile devices such as Smart Phones, handheld computers, personal digital assistants and laptops. Trial participants will use Bell Mobility devices to receive high-quality audiovisual content delivered through PacketVideo’s technology over Bell Mobility’s leading wireless network. Participants will be able to access daily Canadian news updates, courtesy of CTV and Sympatico, as well as content from PacketVideo’s existing partners, such as music videos and movie trailers.
